Boating

Boating pleasure is not limited to sailing. Many power boats call Oriental home. Visitors can charter or rent a power boat, and a captain if they desire. Favorite boating outings include a trip to Beaufort, a creek tour in the area, fishing, water-skiing, and just cruising on the river or one of the many creeks.

Boat watching can be a fun hobby at the Town Dock or one of the several marinas in town. Boats stop in Oriental from the entire East Coast and beyond.

Make sure you visit Oriental April 17-19 for the Oriental Boat Showat Pecan Grove Marina. This event will be the "Boat Show for Everyone".

Kayaking and canoeing are popular ways to explore the waters around town. There is smooth paddling on a quiet tidal creek and more challenging paddling on the river. For paddlers who desire to observe local wildlife, there are hundreds of birds, deer, otter, beaver and bobcats that may be spotted along the forest shores and in the marshes. Whether it’s smooth paddling on a quiet tidal creek or the varying challenges of navigating river shores, Oriental’s tidewaters are a treat for kayakers and canoeists of every skill level. From Oriental to the Pamlico River, there are 150 miles of waterway filled with small creeks, guts and bays – and plenty of easy access points. Our local Kayak Shop Paddle Pamlico is conveniently located on Hodges Street, on the harbor in Oriental.
